CI Air Search Runway Run gets cleared for take-off

The first Channel Islands Air Search Runway Run will take place on Saturday 22 May.

It hopes to build on the success of the five events held by Crimestoppers between 2015 and 2019.

Anyone wanting to sign up to cover the 5km course on the runway and taxiways can do so from today.

There are 500 spaces, with organisers saying it will be a ‘fun run’ rather than a timed event.

‘We are looking forward to welcoming runners to the inaugural Channel Islands Air Search Runway Run in May, and hope that the appeal of being able to run in this unusual environment, against the backdrop of the colourful runway lights, will ensure that the run is fully-subscribed and makes for a successful fundraiser in aid of “the Lifeboats’ eyes in the sky”.

‘We are incredibly grateful for the support of our corporate sponsors BDO Guernsey, as well as to Crimestoppers for their invaluable advice, and to Guernsey Airport, Guernsey Civil Protection, the Aero Club, and many other organisations without whose support the event wouldn’t be possible.’

BDO’s managing director Richard Searle said: ‘We’re thrilled to be on board and support the CI Air Search Runway Run event to raise funds for the critical search and observation services that CI Air Search provides.

‘It’s fantastic that the event can take place this year and we encourage all islanders who enjoy walking, jogging or running to join in and experience the late-night airport event.’

Entry costs £25 and includes a T-shirt to be worn on the night.

Official photographic ID will be required on the night and the name entered needs to match.

Runners are also being encouraged to raise sponsorship, which will be done through Race Nation’s SportsGiving service.
