JUST two weeks remain for people to nominate their Ambassador of the Year 2013.

The tribute, part of the prestigious and long-running annual Awards for Achievement, remains one of the island's top honours.

Re-branded this year as the Guernsey Press Ambassador of the Year, the accolade recognises outstanding islanders or groups who have raised the Bailiwick's profile in a positive way beyond our shores.

Hard-earned and always well deserved, it has been presented to a wide range of winners from fields as diverse as sport, the arts, community work, growing, health, charity, business, catering and religion.

Its first winner, 27 years ago, was Rodney Collenette, one of the group behind the setting up of St James. Other winners have included Specsavers founder Dame Mary Perkins, race ace Andy Priaulx, cross-Channel swimmer Roger Allsopp, and last year's title holder Olympic gold medallist Carl Hester.

Nominees do not necessarily have to be resident in the Bailiwick but they must not be employed specifically to promote it.

The trophy for 2013 will be presented as part of the glittering Awards for Achievement gala ceremony evening at Beau Sejour in February.

Guernsey Press chairman Terry Holder said: 'We are delighted to sponsor the Ambassador of the Year Award for 2013, taking over the role from our parent company, the Guiton Group.

'The Guernsey Press Ambassador Award recognises individuals or groups of people who have followed their passion and, in doing so, brought Guernsey to the attention of the world in a positive way.

'We regularly report on their achievements and we look forward to an interesting list of nominees for 2013.'

Final closing date for all nominations is Monday 6 January. A judging panel will meet soon after, to review the entries and make the decision.
