GUERNSEY’S image rights message is spreading across London and Europe.

In recent weeks John Ogier, registrar of intellectual property for the States, has been involved in a web-based seminar – with the International Trademarks Association and attended two events in London to talk about image rights.

About 50 ITA members from all across Europe, who are involved in many areas of IP, were engaged with the webinar.

Mr Ogier said he was handling a number of questions, particularly those concentrating on the differences between image rights registration and trademarks.

During the session reference was made to pop singer Rihanna’s legal claim against the high street chain Topshop over a T-shirt bearing her image. Mr Ogier said the case had come at an ‘opportune’ time for the profile of image rights.
