ISLANDERS have not been stocking up on petrol despite the steep drop in its price.

It has come down a long way since August when some garages were charging £1 for a litre of unleaded. However, the reduction has not drawn hordes of drivers to the pumps.

'It has been busy, but no more than normal,' said Mark Finn, director of Braye Road Garage. 'People have been happier with the price, though.'

However, the garage is not betting on it staying as low as currently. 'We would love to see it stay this low, but we can't see it happening. We would like to see it go down further still. However, people know the rest of the world affects Guernsey and by next weekend it could rise.'

Trev's Motorcycles has seen an unusually high number of changes in prices.

'This afternoon has been busy,' said owner Trevor Hockey. 'There have been price drops and there are more in the pipeline: it is proving volatile. We have had two price changes this week and that's very unusual. Normally it would be changed only every two, three or even four weeks.'
