MORE than 3,000 people turned up to watch last night's Bonfire Night celebrations at the Rugby Club.

It was a record turnout for the Leapfrog-sponsored show.

'It was a great success,' said Ben Le Huray, one of the organisers.

'We were very fortunate with the weather. The whole island was.

'The fireworks display was very well received. Everyone seemed really complimentary about it.

'We were still serving burgers, hotdogs and drinks until about nine so people stayed around for a good time afterwards.'

Mr Le Huray said that the company had not only sponsored the fireworks, but had also made a donation of £500 to the special baby care unit, a charity which will benefit from the evening's display.

Money raised will also go towards providing outside lighting for the club.
