HEATHER WATSON'S Australian Open campaign evaporated in the blistering Melbourne heat overnight.

The Guernsey teenager, seeded nine, went down in straight sets 3-6, 5-7 to Russian number three seed Ksenia Pervak in their quarter-final showdown, which lasted six minutes short of two hours.

'I was quite exhausted after playing in the same conditions yesterday and I made too many errors today,' Watson said.

'I felt drained because I've never played in extreme heat like this before and today's match probably came too soon for me.

'I drank lots of water yesterday but I woke up in the middle of the night feeling dehydrated, so I drank lots more water to help me get back to sleep.

'It would have been very tough for both of us if it had been a three-set match because it was just so hot.
