A TRAINEE priest from Guernsey who plunged 20ft from a window continues to recover at a London hospital.

John Paul Lyttle's progress has amazed doctors at Charing Cross Hospital after the 28-year-old suffered severe head and back injuries a month ago.

His family have kept a bedside vigil for Mr Lyttle (pictured), whose injuries had been considered life-threatening.

But, four weeks on, he is making miraculous progress. 'He is sat up in bed and talking and can move his arms, which is good news,' said Detective Inspector Alan Holford of Hounslow Police.

He added that, although the prognosis two-and-a-half weeks ago had been bleak, he was now on course for a good recovery.

Mr Lyttle was smoking with a woman and two men, aged between 18 and 21, at the window in a church-owned flat in Isleworth, London, at 4am on Monday 15 June when he fell, landing on a concrete patio. The incident is being treated as an accident.

Mr Lyttle, a former St Joseph's altar boy and Notre Dame Primary School pupil, had recently resumed his studies for the Catholic priesthood.
