Dawn of a new club

After having a show-around last week, Emily Burden believes it is shaping up to be the hottest nightspot not only in Guernsey, but in the whole of the Channel Islands.

ISLANDERS have been waiting a long time for a decent nightclub to come their way.

Now the wait is almost over.

Club Fusion is set to open in the next couple of weeks, taking over and transforming what used to be Rogues in Le Truchot, St Peter Port.

Without giving too much away, it will have the latest in technology, both in the DJ booths and sound systems.

It is going to have a state-of-the-art lighting system, which the club's new owner, Adam Burroughs, said would shock people.

'I am trying not to give too much away, as I want it to be a surprise,' he said.

'But it's safe to say that there isn't anything else like it in terms of the sound, lighting or choice of liquors anywhere else in the island.

'The lighting isn't only new to the Channel Islands, but the UK as well. The sound system is going to be the one used at the outdoor cinema event at Saumarez Park.'

Adam (pictured during renovation work at the new club), former manager of Barbados, said he was trying to bring a UK-style club to the island, with top big-name DJs and celeb guests.

'We're hoping to eventually be open to all different styles of dance music, but right now, it is about opening the club and giving people a place that we have been lacking for years.'

Adam has many years of experience in the trade, having worked as a club promoter and bar manager.

He took over the club after the lease of the previous owner, Martin Rogan, was terminated in August.

'Anything that happened in the past has nothing to do with me and what I am trying to do now,' Adam said.

'This is a new lease, with a totally new look in the building and a new company.'

There will also be an exclusive club members' area within the building, where VIPs can enjoy the finest of vodkas, whiskeys and champagnes in the comfort of some funky-looking furniture.

As well as the club, Adam has taken over former Irish bar Claddagh.

The themed pub has been transformed into a trendy bar called Luna, and is barely recognisable as the same place.

'Although Guernsey has been affected by the recession, I think there are still people going out enjoying themselves and spending money,' Adam said.

'The club and the bar are going to be places where you can have a quality night out, without spending a fortune.'

Guernsey's nightlife is set to take a turn for the better, with Fusion and Luna to open mid-October.

Be sure to look out for the official opening date – to be announced soon – as the night is set to go down in ravers' history.
