Collective thumbs up for new layout

CHANGES made to the motocross track at Pleinmont received overwhelming support from riders this weekend.

The Guernsey Kart and Motor Cross Club held its annual two-day festival and about 100 riders competed in seven classes.

Club captain Jai Vaudin said the sport is going from strength-to-strength, as highlighted by the large turnout.

'It's been absolutely excellent,' he said at lunchtime on Saturday. 'It has taken a lot of planning and it's been a new experience for me as well because I'm new in the post as captain.'

Vaudin, who was appointed captain in January, said he was delighted with the variety of competitor - the youngest rider was just six years old.

There were also 30 riders from Jersey who had made the trip over.

'This is a separate championship from the main one,' he said. 'All points accumulated on the Saturday role through to the Sunday and whoever has the most in total wins that class.'

He said the sport could be dangerous at times but all riders adhered to all necessary safety measures, with special boots and body armour worn during races.

Vaudin said the standard of rider in the island was excellent.
