THERE are significant opportunities for Guernsey Police to become even better, according to its new chief.

Commander Patrick Rice (pictured), currently with the City of London Police, is due to take up the post in August.

He intends to focus on neighbourhood policing and will ask the community and his colleagues what they want from their police force.

'If you benchmark where the UK is with delivering neighbourhood policing, there are significant opportunities for Guernsey Police to leapfrog and move ahead.'

The national framework could be set within a local context, he said.
