CI men could clinch promotion at home

ANDREW WINNIE, coach and selector of the Sportingbet Channel Islands Athletic Club squads, was a happy man after the weekend's matches.

While the women did just enough to avoid relegation from Division Three of the UK League, the men consolidated their second spot in Division Four of the British League and look a safe bet for promotion with just the home meeting at Foote's Lane to come later this month.

The women's team, which featured just one Sarnian athlete, put in a tremendous effort in Portsmouth to finish in sixth place out of eight in their final match.
