THE new chief officer of Guernsey Police wants to put more bobbies on the beat.

And he said big savings could be made by working more closely with the States.

Patrick Rice (pictured) was sworn in by the Royal Court yesterday.

He said one of the biggest challenges facing the force was the constraint on public spending. Mr Rice expected budgets to be tight for the next 10 years and said different bodies would have to work together to make savings.

'What I do see is closer collaboration between police and other government departments around how we can share cash and do things together.'
