THE St Saviour's wartime tunnels are safe, according to the owner of the section that has been put up for sale.

Maureen Traisnel is looking to sell part of the tunnels for £140,000-plus.

She said she was frustrated to read comments by dean of the douzaine Stan Bichard, who said the property was unsafe.

'We have liability insurance,' she said. 'The douzaine has always been causing problems about these tunnels. The tunnels are kept locked up and we do regular checks.'

She said there was no access to her tunnels from the area owned by the church.
