A GUERNSEY medical student rushed to try to save a man who lay dying in the street after being shot seven times by drive-by gunmen in Sheffield.

A GUERNSEY medical student rushed to try to save a man who lay dying in the street after being shot seven times by drive-by gunmen in Sheffield.

But Lucy Solway, who has now been commended for her bravery by South Yorkshire Police, said yesterday: 'It was something I would have done for anyone.

'It's what I was trained to do.'

The Guernseywoman's bravery was officially recognised by South Yorkshire Police Authority on 20 October when chairman Charles Perryman presented her with the commendation.
