No Nettles at DVD launch as threats are branded appalling

THREATS against actor John Nettles were branded appalling at the DVD launch of The Channel Islands at War yesterday.

Interviewees from the three-part series researched, written and presented by Mr Nettles, said the documentary was balanced and did not imply islanders were collaborators or cowardly during the Occupation.

'I was infuriated that people had written to him and complained. The majority of people in the islands were involved with the Germans in some way or another, you couldn't help it. There were a few we know who got too close but for most of us it was enforced cooperation, which is what John Nettles said,' said Occupation Society member Herbert Winterflood, who appears in the series.

Speaking at the DVD launch at the Occupation Museum was Sir de Vic Carey (pictured), whose grandfather was both Bailiff and Lt-Governor during the Occupation, who could not believe that anyone had taken issue with the documentary.
