Disability law is still years off

The lack of a disability discrimination law in Guernsey cannot be addressed until 2013, according to the Guernsey Disability Alliance chairwoman.

Speaking at the GDA's third annual general meeting at the Ron Short Centre last night, Shelaine Green (pictured) said that 2013 was when the disability strategy was likely to be completed and until then the issue cannot begin to be looked at.

'A potential step that could be taken in the meantime is the inclusion of disability discrimination alongside sex discrimination as a specific grounds for going to an employment tribunal,' she said.

'The odds of that got distinctly slimmer when the Chamber of Commerce came out strongly against more employment law.'
