Bridgman comes through tough series in fine style

SAILOR Andy Bridgman has qualified for the Laser Radial World and European Championships at La Rochelle in France at the end of July after a tough qualifying series this spring.

Bridgman, 16 (pictured), a sixth form student at the Grammar School and a world champion in 2009 in the International Sailing Federation World Topper Championships, switched to Laser racing last year.

He had contemplated switching to double-handed boats this summer, but was unable to secure a regular crew because of the logistical difficulties presented by his Guernsey home.

So the teenager, who is sponsored by King's Life, Condor Ferries and Purple Marine, targeted World Championship qualification in the single-handed Laser Radial Series.
