ARMED police were called to the Wayside Cheer Hotel when a father protesting about rights to see his child threw fireworks from the roof.

Benjamin Troalic broke his foot in three places as he fell getting off the roof after a two-and-a-half-hour standoff during which he claimed he had an MP 40 sub-machine gun.

In the Magistrate's Court, Troalic, 29, admitted using or threatening unlawful violence and causing criminal damage to roof tiles and guttering.

He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, two years' supervision and 90 hours' community service, and was ordered to pay £515 compensation.
