HSSD aims to allay fears of charities over mental health

COMMUNITY mental healthcare is a top priority for the Health and Social Services Department, a spokesman has said.

The department unveiled plans for a new £25m. mental health facility last week, cutting the number of adult beds from 21 to 18 and the number of older adult beds from 12 to eight.

Health minister Deputy Hunter Adam (pictured) said extra care in the community would make up for the loss.

Local mental health charities have raised concerns about whether the scheme would be set up in time for the opening of the new unit in 2015.
