Six times cost of bowel cancer screening on airport PR 'unnecessary'

SPENDING £300,000 on a communications programme for the airport development is totally unnecessary, the Housing minister has said.

Dave Jones (pictured) raised the issue in the States last week and has since said spending like that was disgraceful.

'The States had a lot of stick over £50,000 for bowel cancer screening, but now we find that six times that amount is being used for this programme. The spending of this money is totally unnecessary in my view and is employing people for the sake of it,' he said.

Public Services minister Bernard Flouquet was questioned about the cost in the States last week. He told members that the budget covered a contract with a PR company, public presentations and drop-ins, among other items.
