A STALWART of local football could win a national FA award this weekend as he travels to Wembley for the season's curtain-raising Community Shield.

Lewis Laine has also featured in a Sunday tabloid newspaper after his nomination, having been involved with Channel Island champions St Martin's in various capacities since 1969.

The 91-year-old is one of the nominees for the Outstanding Contribution award, with the winner being decided and presented with their award on the pitch at half-time of Sunday's clash between Manchester United and Manchester City.

The nomination allows Laine, better known as 'Louie', to take three other guests with him into Club Wembley for the day, as well as being given 25 other complimentary tickets for the game. Should he win the award, he will have it presented to him by England legends Sir Geoff Hurst and Sir Trevor Brooking.
