Broadband: 'Infrastructure will limit speed gains'

DESPITE the recently announced upgrade, Guernsey's internet infrastructure needs a lot more work to meet future demand, Wave has said.

Sure is currently working to take all users on the 8Mb package up to 16Mb, with work going on throughout this month to get everyone up to speed.

But Tim Ringsdore (pictured), the managing director of Sure's competitor, Wave, was critical of the telecoms company's plans.

'While we agree this is an acceptable speed for today's needs, we do not see any commitment or plans from Sure yet to invest in the fibre infrastructure that would be needed to fulfil the future requirements of consumers.'
