AN ASSAULT victim lay on her lounge floor crying out in pain for nine hours trying to rouse from a drunken sleep the man who had attacked her.

When Gary Ogier finally woke to find his partner asking for water, he got her a glass and put it just out of her reach before calling 999 and handing her the phone.

In the Magistrate's Court, Ogier, 55, of The Chalet, Les Prins Lane, Portinfer, Vale, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm on his girlfriend.

Advocate Clare Tee said her client accepted the prosecution's version of events and that alcohol played such a part he had no real recollection. She said he was disgusted with himself.

He was sent to prison for 18 months.
