A BACTERIA that can cause Legionnaires' disease has been detected in the Princess Elizabeth Hospital's water supply, it emerged yesterday.

Health and Social Services confirmed that an unacceptable level of legionella had been found and said it had begun implementing an action plan to bring down the levels.

The discovery was made during routine checks.

But the department said there was 'minimal risk' to patients and staff. So far, no patients or employees have been identified as suffering from any illness that might be linked to the bacteria.
