Waitrose looks to open on two Sundays in December

MAJOR retailers could be allowed to open on two Sundays over the Christmas holiday.

And Commerce and Employment has also announced it intends to consult on wider relaxation of the Sunday trading laws later this year.

Last May, a survey by Island Analysis revealed that 63% of islanders were in favour of relaxing Sunday trading restrictions.

Commerce and Employment yesterday said it had received an approach from a major food retailer wanting to open on Sunday 23 and Sunday 30 December.

Enquiries by the Guernsey Press have revealed that the application was made by Waitrose.
