HMV is closing its Guernsey fulfilment warehouse, with the loss of up to 46 jobs.

The business has been based in the island for seven years, but the entertainment giant yesterday confirmed its operation will move back to the UK.

The news comes a week after Guernsey lost a High Court appeal against the UK's decision to scrap VAT relief on cheap goods sent from the Channel Islands. All items sent to the UK will be subject to VAT from the start of April.

HMV's closure will bring the number of job losses connected to the loss of LVCR to about 100 - Healthspan and 7dayshop.com have already confirmed that their distribution centres in the island will shut, leaving 26 and 30 people out of work respectively.

Its shop in the Markets will remain open, with a spokesman saying it was one of the company's strongest performing stores.
