GUERNSEY band The Risk has won the trademark to its name, meaning it now has the legal backing to stop others from using it.

The mod-powerpop band applied to secure the rights to the name at the end of last year when television talent show The X Factor put together a boy band with the same name for its live shows.

And now, after a protracted dispute with Hasbro, makers of the board game Risk, Guernsey's own have secured the trademark to their name.

'It's now registered online with the Intellectual Property Office,' said guitarist Colin Leach.

The X Factor's manufactured quartet was voted off in week five of the last series but it is currently taking part in The X Factor live tour.
