A MAN pleaded guilty to committing eight sex offences against a child when he appeared before the Royal Court.

Peter Lloyd Ray Nicolle, 50, entered guilty pleas to four counts of committing an act of gross indecency with, and four of indecently assaulting, a girl under the age of 16.

The offences took place in 2010. Nicolle said he was of no fixed address when he first appeared in the Magistrate's Court on 5 March and his case was committed to the Royal Court on 2 April.

Prosecutor Advocate Rory Calderwood said a Newton hearing might be required. One takes place when a defendant admits an offence but disputes some of the prosecution evidence that could have a bearing on sentencing.

Judge Russell Finch adjourned the case until 10 May to give the prosecution and defence time to try and reach agreement.

There was no bail application and the defendant was remanded in custody.
