STAINED-GLASS windows that are nearly 200 years old have been vandalised at HMV in the Markets.

Four windows have been broken. One, which suffered the worst damage, was discovered on Thursday of last week, with the remainder found yesterday morning.

It was thought that the latest attack was some time between 8.30pm on Thursday and 6.30am yesterday. Glass has been smashed and some of the lead between the pieces has been damaged too.

HMV assistant manager Daniel Beard said he has seen youngsters playing ball games outside and kicking them at the building, leading him to tell them to stop, and thought a similar incident might be behind the worst-affected window, which has had to be boarded up.

St Peter Port constable Dennis Le Moignan said it was mindless vandalism and would not be cheap to remedy.
