AFTER a nervous year-long wait three Guernsey nurses have qualified for the Olympics as volunteer 'games makers'.

Gill Yeaman, 56, Claire Penney, 36, and Anna Bowditch, 23, applied last year, along with 18,000 other members of the medical profession, to become first responders during the event - providing initial medical assistance for the crowd.

Mrs Yeaman, who has been a nurse for 34 years, said she was delighted to have been one of the 4,000 applicants selected.

Claire Penney said she had to read her acceptance email twice, as she could not believe she had been selected.

Miss Bowditch was unsuccessful in her attempt to become a first responder, but instead will attend the event as a service team member at Horseguards Parade, overseeing the beach volleyball.
