SURE and Airtel-Vodafone support warnings that JT could be misleading customers with an advertising campaign for its claimed super-fast internet service.

The two telecoms providers said describing current packages as being 4G when the licences had not yet been released was deceptive for customers.

JT has claimed subscribers could receive mobile broadband at up to 42 megabits per second on a so-called 4G network.

However, the Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authority said on Wednesday that only a few masts in Jersey and Guernsey offered the service, which is available only in parts of St Helier and St Peter Port.

John Curran, pictured, chief executive of Cicra, said JT was asked to be more precise in its advertising of what exactly its network could deliver, but it had declined to do so.
