THE plane whose undercarriage collapsed soon after landing in Jersey had recently completed a scheduled maintenance check, Blue Islands has confirmed.

It is understood the crash, which occurred at 8.23am on Saturday, was caused after a landing gear component failed two years into an eight-year life span.

There were 40 passengers and three crew on board the ATR42 but no one was injured.

Blue Islands said the Air Accidents Investigation Branch was investigating the crash and that 'no further comment on the detail of this investigation is permitted until the full report is released'.

Managing director Rob Veron criticised the use of aviation experts to discuss the crash.
