IMPLEMENTING recommendation's to overhaul Sark's government would be less painful if the Seigneur publicly endorsed the proposals, the Sark Newsletter has said.

Editor Kevin Delaney has written to Michael Beaumont asking him to show his support for the proposals by former Ministry of Justice information director Belinda Crowe.

Mr Delaney said Mr Beaumont had the perfect opportunity to use his power in a positive way.

'The implementation of Ms Crowe's recommendations will be a much less painful experience for the Island of Sark – both for its people and those who govern them – if you were to state openly, publicly and in no uncertain terms that you support Ms Crowe's review and the process she recommends to put Sark on a course towards true democracy and good governance with transparency and accountability,' he said in an open letter published in the latest edition of the newsletter.

'Now is the time for you finally to proclaim your support for laws to protect the innocent and the victims.'

The Crowe report has recommended streamlining the committee system, adopting principles of good governance – with procedures to ensure transparency and integrity – and the introduction of a small, impartial public service.
