DOMESTIC abuse in Guernsey is increasing and it is one of the key issues officers are tackling, the chief officer of police has said.

The force's 2011 annual report revealed that 802 domestic abuse incidents – more than 15 a week – were reported over the year, which resulted in 329 arrests.

It is one of the principle areas being investigated by the public protection unit (PPU).

'It is a serious issue and it requires some very serious consideration,' chief officer of police Patrick Rice (pictured) said.

'Reports of victimisation are going up, the complexity of some of the incidents is increasing and the resources of the team we're having to devote is increasing as well.'
