A MOVE by Treasury and Resource's board to have States chief executive Mike Brown temporarily suspended was way over the top and a ludicrous suggestion, some backbenchers said yesterday.

Deputies spoken to by the Guernsey Press said they failed to understand on what grounds Mr Brown could be treated in that way. Several said it was unfair for Treasury board members to raise the issue through Policy Council and potentially tarnish his name.

Vale poll-topper Deputy Matt Fallaize (pictured) said the move represented a clear error of judgment on the part of the Treasury board.

'I don't really know why it was brought up by anybody,' he said. 'I would have thought the Policy Council would have kicked it into touch pretty quickly as it was a ludicrous suggestion. I was amazed when I read it because I did not understand what the grounds might be for suspending Mike Brown.'
