GUERNSEY BMXers have the talent to follow in the high-flying wheels of the Team GB riders, the Guernsey Xtreme Sports Association chairman has said.

Deputy Mike O'Hara was delighted with the success of Liam Phillips and Shanaze Reade, who got through to the finals yesterday at the London 2012 Velopark.

'They have done fantastically well and it's brilliant for the profile of the sport,' he said.

'It will be a real boost for extreme sports on the island and the timing couldn't be any better with the new skatepark on the horizon.'

Construction of the skatepark could start next month, Deputy O'Hara said, adding that it was his dream to have Phillips or Reade over for its opening.
