A TAXPAYER funded trip to an international culture summit was money well spent because the knowledge brought back to the island will greatly benefit its economy, the Culture and Leisure minister said.

Mike O'Hara attended Edinburgh's first culture summit with head of arts development Joanna Littlejohns.

He said it had been a great experience to meet culture ministers from 37 countries during the two-day event.

'I had the opportunity to come to the summit and I took it. While I have been here I have been promoting Guernsey and showing other countries what Guernsey can do and there is nothing wrong in taking that opportunity to make contact with people and build relationships.

'We have been up at 7am today having debates and they won't finish until 8pm so it is not all a jolly – it is hard work,' he said.
