CULTURE and Leisure set aside £2,000 for delegates to attend a culture summit in Edinburgh, it has been revealed.

But chief officer Dave Chilton said the department had not yet received the actual cost of sending minister Mike O'Hara and head of arts development Joanna Littlejohns on the trip.

Many islanders expressed their frustration at the cost despite assurances from Deputy O'Hara that it had provided an invaluable opportunity to promote the island.

Mr Chilton said the department had a budget to support staff in travelling off-island for their continued professional development by attendance at conferences and seminars and for training.

'The opportunity for Guernsey to be represented at the recent culture summit in Edinburgh was discussed and approved by the board of Culture and Leisure and a travel and accommodation budget of £2,000 approved,' he said.
