FORMER prisoners could find work in island kerbside recycling initiatives thanks to a new prison working programme.
It follows the Home Department's approval of a new partnership between Guernsey Prison, Guernsey Recycling and Mayside.
Under the scheme, loads of mixed materials, that would normally have to be recycled off-island, will be delivered to the prison to be hand-sorted by inmates into clean recyclates.
As well as generating income for the prison service, prisoners will be able to gain level 1 and 2 NVQ qualifications in recycling operations.
