AFTER nearly a year under consideration, an £8m. social housing development on the former Boys' Grammar School site on Brock Road has finally been given planning permission.

But the approval has 18 conditions – many aimed at protecting the mature trees around the site.

If any are damaged or killed, the Guernsey Housing Association will have to replace them with the same size and species, which could be difficult in the case of the mature trees at the front of the site.

GHA development manager Phil Roussel said workers would do everything they could to protect the trees and fencing would be placed around the trunks.
