A WHEELCHAIR user will attempt to swim from Guernsey to Herm using only the strength of his arms.

Aindre Reece-Sheerin, 56, has just embarked on a year of training ahead of the astonishing feat, around 17 years after a motorcycle accident left him with life-changing injuries, including breaks to his back and three discs in his neck.

Mr Reece-Sheerin, pictured, who works for customer services at Waitrose in Admiral Park, has completed the Guernsey Marathon and castle swim many times, but admitted he had never taken on such a momentous physical challenge as the three-mile swim to Herm.

It will be in aid of an as yet undecided Bailiwick charity, but Mr Reece-Sheerin knows he would have to push through the pain barrier to get there.
