'I'm a bit of a glutton for a challenge' says wheelchair user Aindre on Herm swim plan

A WHEELCHAIR user will attempt to swim from Guernsey to Herm using only the strength of his arms.

Aindre Reece-Sheerin, 56, has just embarked on a year of training ahead of the astonishing feat, around 17 years after a motorcycle accident left him with life-changing injuries, including breaks to his back and three discs in his neck.

Mr Reece-Sheerin, pictured, who works for customer services at Waitrose in Admiral Park, has completed the Guernsey Marathon and castle swim many times, but admitted he had never taken on such a momentous physical challenge as the three-mile swim to Herm.

It will be in aid of an as yet undecided Bailiwick charity, but Mr Reece-Sheerin knows he would have to push through the pain barrier to get there.

Good luck Andre. If you swim half as well as you sing it'll be a doddle!

Hi folks,

Thank you so much for your support and compliments. I am in no doubt how demanding this will be. The furthest I even swam was for my Mile Badge 45 years ago. Yes a Whole generation ago. As I am using only my arms may have to buy some new shirts at the end LOL. Will try to keep everyone up to date on training about once every two months so as to keep it live but not bore the proverbial off everyone.

Channel Television filmed me this afternoon in training and it should go to air tomorrow evening's NEWS bulletin.
