Bergerac star's book signing sees queues in Smith Street

A QUEUE stretched across Smith Street yesterday as people took the opportunity to meet Bergerac star John Nettles and get their copy of his new book signed by him.

A QUEUE stretched across Smith Street yesterday as people took the opportunity to meet Bergerac star John Nettles and get their copy of his new book signed by him.

'Jewels and Jackboots' took the actor more than two years to complete and features previously unpublished photographs and interviews as well as many little-known Occupation facts.

Stephen Robilliard, 69, who was on the island visiting his sister, said his parents had been evacuated to the UK during the Occupation.

They returned when Mr Robilliard was aged two.

'I've seen a lot of what has been said by other writers about the Occupation in the past that I felt wasn't quite right,' he said. He seems to have delved in a bit deeper and found a few more details. It will be good to see things from a different perspective.'
