A NURSE who gave a patient the wrong mix of drugs, and failed to recognise that another was allergic to penicillin, has been cleared of misconduct.

Yeukai Jongwe admitted her errors, but it was found that the mistakes – committed while she worked at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital – did not constitute misconduct.

Panel chair Yvonne Brown said: 'The panel is of the view that, as there were dispensing and prescribing errors, this goes some way to explain Ms Jongwe's errors.

'In the circumstances, other experienced nurses could have made similar mistakes.

'The panel is encouraged that, following her errors, Ms Jongwe recorded her errors immediately and followed the steps required of her.'
