SHOEBOX donations for the Rotary Guernesiais Christmas appeal have dropped this year, but organisers said they were still pleased with how much was given.

A container filled with 3,096 boxes from Guernsey is currently being shipped to Montenegro, Moldova and Albania.

Alan and Heather Dearman organised the donations, which contain gifts for children.

'It was very, very good,' Mr Dearman said. 'The total number was only 144 short of the Guernsey record, which was set last year.'

The biggest drop came from the schools. This year, 1,070 came from those establishments – more than 300 fewer than last year.
