GUERNSEY'S lay representative at the General Synod voted against a move to allow women bishops, but insisted that reflected the majority feeling of church officials in the island.

David Robilliard attended the special sitting at the Church of England synod on Tuesday

Mr Robilliard said his vote was entirely independent of islanders' views.

'The biggest misunderstanding with this is that it was not whether we are in favour of women bishops. It was whether the legalisation proposed was sufficient. If it was a vote on whether we were in favour of women bishops it would probably have been the other way round,' he said.
