GUERNSEY POST is drafting in extra staff to cope with a deluge of Christmas mail, it has confirmed.

Six people are being recruited to support its operations during December due to an 18% rise in the volume of packets and parcels received in the first three weeks of November compared to last year.

It added that it had seen a 40% rise on its busiest day this week.

It will also be delivering on Saturdays and will double up on distributions this weekend.

The additional measures follow a year of cuts during which 45 jobs were shed and the number of delivery days reduced from six to five.

It said it was preparing for its busiest Christmas ever in terms of packet and parcel deliveries.
