HERM will feature in a future edition of popular magazine Total Sea Fishing.

Editor Barney Wright visited the island recently and claims it is an 'angler's paradise'.

Barney has been to Herm six times. He was first invited over by Guernsey fishing guide John Rothwell, who introduced him to a group of like-minded anglers enjoying an annual 'guys only' fishing holiday. They became instant friends and Barney returned for four years running.

This year he came without the crew but with his partner, Lynn Brookes. Not having been to Herm for a few years, he missed the island dearly and it was a golden opportunity to share the experience with Lynn, who has never visited.

This trip was, in truth, a bit of a busman's holiday, as Barney was also working for Total Sea Fishing to create a full-length feature on the excellent fishing on offer and to help promote Herm.

His stay was courtesy of island director Jonathan Watson, who gave the couple a sea view apartment for the duration.

'Herm is not just a summer venue,' said Barney. 'It is also a wonderful place to be off-season. The self-catering facilities are extremely comfortable and the weather is always better than in the UK.'

He spent just three days here and fished a couple of times as well as spending much time showing off our tranquil island to Lynn.

Due to ferry times, day four was spent in Guernsey with John Rothwell, who took the couple on a full tour before they returned to England.

Barney has already booked a week's holiday for 2013, when he hopes to liaise with the old gang and spend a week targeting the myriad species that offer so much sport.

In the meantime, look out for his feature in a future issue of Total Sea Fishing.
