BUMBLEBEE Boat Cruises has stopped its winter sailings due to a lack of demand, according to its managing director.

Dan Meinke said it had been a really successful year until the last couple of months, but it will be starting up its 2013 schedule in March.

The company has been running a ferry service between St Peter Port and Alderney as well as coastal cruises.

'We took the decision to call off the winter schedule,' he said. 'We are a new business and we can't compare numbers as this is our first season.'

He thought they had carried approximately 1,800 passengers during its first season, with an estimated 1,100 between the Guernsey and Alderney route and 700 on the coastal cruises.
