BUMBLEBEE Boat Cruises has stopped its winter sailings due to a lack of demand, according to its managing director.

Dan Meinke said it had been a really successful year until the last couple of months, but it will be starting up its 2013 schedule in March.

The company has been running a ferry service between St Peter Port and Alderney as well as coastal cruises.

‘We took the decision to call off the winter schedule,’ he said. ‘We are a new business and we can’t compare numbers as this is our first season.’

He thought they had carried approximately 1,800 passengers during its first season, with an estimated 1,100 between the Guernsey and Alderney route and 700 on the coastal cruises.

Any chance of the occasional trip between Alderney and Jersey? Many of us Jersey residents would love the opportunity to get to the Northern isle if the fare was more reasonable.

Perhaps Aurigny could be persuaded to do the occasional weekend breaks to Alderney from Jersey rather than us having to fly to Guernsey first at great expense. Once a month in the summer would do. We have just spent £300.00 on fares for our Christmas in Alderney. It's too much but we love the place. It also means we have to cut down on our trips to Guernsey.

Alderney to Jersey!. Us here on Alderney would like that as well, and Alderney to France would be great also.

Nigel and Island girl - I totally agree a direct route to jersey would be a fabulous idea !!

Aurigny did two day trips to Jersey during the Guernsey airport closure days and it sold out by word of mouth only. Well, you know what Alderney is like !!

The demand is there I am sure.Personally, I would prefer to fly BUT, there are loads of people who love sea travel. Go For It Bumble Bee !!!!!!!!!!!!

You wouldnt even need to formally advertise as long as the weather is set fair just phone up a few pubs and shops in Alderney and tell them its available and youd have your passengers.

"as long as the weather is set fair"

Aye, there's the rub.
