CURRY was on the menu at the fire station last night as a group of firefighters took part in a new healthy cooking initiative.

To help launch the Health Promotion Unit's community cooking programme, members of red watch prepared and cooked a healthy meal.

They had a helping hand from community cooking coordinator Rachel Green, who taught them new skills, safety in the kitchen and healthy recipes.

'This has been an opportunity for them to try out new tastes in a safe environment,' she said.

'Curry seemed to be a suitable food to do with them and we have been using lots of vegetables in a healthy way.'
