ALL of Alderney's volunteer firefighters spent more than four hours battling a huge blaze which broke out at a builder's store in St Anne's.

Neighbours spoke of a loud bang at about 4pm at the former Mouriaux Garage, close to the water tower.

The building was being used to store construction materials for the renovation of nearby Mouriaux House, including wood and flammable materials like oxyacetylene.

The cause of the fire has not been established.

Flames could be seen through the roof of the building and billowing clouds of black smoke could be seen from all over the island.
